File shares: Access-Based Enumeration
Check id files.abe
What it checks
For each share someone has mapped, checks whether Windows Access-Based Enumeration (ABE) is on. Gate already hides what a person cannot open; ABE makes Explorer hide it too.
What you might see
| Info | Access-Based Enumeration (ABE) is off on: \\fs1\Data. | Gate still hides it from the AI; people can see the names in Explorer. |
| OK | Access-Based Enumeration (ABE) is enabled on all 3 share(s). | Fine. |
How to fix it
- On the file server: Server Manager → File and Storage Services → Shares.
- Right-click the share → Properties → Settings → tick Enable access-based enumeration.
Command line
Set-SmbShare -Name Data -FolderEnumerationMode AccessBased -Force
